South Petherton Parish Council is having to consider factors beyond its control when setting the Precept The South Petherton Precept total budget for the year has simply been divided by a figure known as the 'tax base' to calculate the Precept element for a Band D property We are faced with an as yet unquantifiable adjustment in our Precept as a result of the way Local Council Tax benefits are to be paid in the future To offset some of this increase, a grant will be provided by the District Council to discount our precept accordingly and reduce the new, higher, band D cost
