Ovingham Goose Fair takes place on the third Saturday in June every year. It dates back to the 13th Century. During the 19th Century geese were walked from Cumbria to the Christmas markets in Gateshead and Newcastle. Whilst in Ovingham, the geese rested and fattened-up. Their handlers relaxed and made merry
