Medical Acupuncture
Medical, or modern, acupuncture is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture. It involves the insertion of needles for muscular pain relief and to stimulate the nervous system to relieve pain and promote healing. Very often, tight painful bands within a muscle, called a 'trigger points', cause pain to be experienced at a distance from the trigger point itself. This and other conditions are suitable for treatment by acupuncture. Fine, disposable single-use needles are inserted into points in the body and gently moved. Although the sensation varies from person to person, it is usually painless and relieves discomfort. Joanna is a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and uses the principles of evidence-based medicine and her knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology to diagnose trigger points and other conditions relating to bone, muscle and ligaments. She will take your case history, carry-out examination and discuss whether this approach, or a combined osteopathic and acupuncture treatment plan may be helpful to you.
