The Society was founded in 1980 and provides a wide ranging programme of activities for everyone interested in natural history and the countryside. Regular field outings in the summer to interesting natural or historic sites are led by acknowledged experts. The programme is continued in winter with evening talks by well known specialists on a variety of topics including birds, flowers, insects, local history, archaeology, geology and land use
