Mark Anthony Carroll is a Birmingham based artist who in 2009 graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Demontfort University, Leicester. His work has to have significant personal meaning for him and this is explored by reflecting on his life experiences and stories of other communities expressed through the medium of painting using oil and mixed media on canvas. Narrative is further explored through colour, surface and texture. The starting point for most of the work is from found photographs, images and conversations with others. "Nothing is for nothing in the way that I work. All things must have purpose, character and reason. Colour for me triggers the senses and they are chosen to compliment the subject matter that I am painting. Mood is also vitally important to me as according to how I feel this will affect the outcome of each work that I do. The same can be said about music as this also adds to my mood whilst I am painting. For myself painting is a passion, I am at home with it. It is a form of therapeutic expression and freedom for me"
