Landmark Kitchens - In the press
Period House Magazine May 09 Inspired by a 19th Century cupboard, the Appletons have created a light and spacious kitchen, which seamlessly fuses the old with the new. Nearly sixty years after being evacuated to Cornwall, it was pure chance that the farm, which had been home to Brian Appleton during those tumultuous war years, became home again. "We were visiting Cornwall and decided on a whim to see if the farm was still there," recalls Brian. "It was, although it was no longer a working farm, and it was up for sale." Viewing the cottage, happy memories of a childhood spent there during wartime Britain flooded back to him. Susie adds: "We fell in love with the cottage and spent the following week trying to rearrange our lives. Finally, we had to admit that we just weren't in a position to buy it so it stayed as it was - just a dream." However, coming into money a year later, the couple didn't dare hope that their idyllic cottage would still be for sale. "But it was," chuckles Brian, who adds: "It was meant to be."
